Co-Design Optimization of Direct Drive PMSGs for Offshore Wind Turbines Based on Wind Speed Profile

This paper presents a new method to optimize, from working cycle defined by torque and speed profiles, both the design control strategy of permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs). The case 10 MW direct-drive generator for an Offshore wind turbine was chosen illustrate this method, which is based on d–q axis equivalent circuit model. It allows with reduced computation time, design, considering either flux weakening (FW) or maximum per Ampere (MTPA) strategy, while respecting all constraints—particularly thermal constraint, characterized transient regime. considered objective minimize mass average electric losses over points. Thermal magnetic analytical models are validated 2D finite element analysis (FEA).
